Q&A

HOW DID YOU START?

It's probably the question I get asked most often. I was living in The Netherlands for a year traveling around Europe, and that's when my curiosity for food and culture really started. I was researching, reading, photographing and taking notes of all my food, and traveling to places in search of specific dishes. When I came back to Vancouver I continued doing it and my sister encouraged me to start a blog. After some encouragement from her, www.FollowMeFoodie.com was born July 2009. I wrote every single day on a new restaurant on average 2500 words a day, and it just started to grow from there. It didn't happen overnight, but what started as a hobby and passion quickly became my life and eventually career.

This video sums it up nicely https://truecallingmedia.com/food/mijune-pak/

HOW DID YOU GET YOUR NAME? WHERE IS HOME?

Mijune [pronounced mē-june (like the month I was born in)]
My mom's name is Mimi and I was born in the month of June, so Mijune.
I am born and raised in Vancouver, but of course travel a lot for work.

WHAT'S YOUR FAVOURITE RESTAURANT OR BEST RESTAURANT IN THE WORLD?

I don't have one. I don't really say anything is "the best" because food is subjective and personal. Also who's to say it's "the best" unless they've tried every single version of whatever dish they are seeking "the best" of? I might have some favourites depending on where I am, but check out my recommendations for more.

WHAT'S YOUR LAST MEAL?

You might think it's some fancy over-the-top tasting menu, but it's the opposite. It has to be something comforting or nostalgic like my dad's mushroom omelette on toast which I had growing up, or my mom's steamed egg and tofu... with maybe a tin of exquisite caviar and a pearl spoon on the side.

WHAT'S YOUR FAVOURITE INGREDIENT?

Butter, salt, eggs, mushrooms... I can't pick one!

WHO DOES YOUR HAIR AND MAKE-UP?

In Vancouver my hair stylist and make up artist is Anita Lee, owner of Helmet Salon (http://helmetsalon.com/).
Sometimes she travels with me and sometimes I'll have someone local depending on the project.
